Bali, a visual and spiritual experience

After packing up our family home and expatriating from Switzerland to Japan, our family was absolutely in need of a holiday. We wanted sunshine, relaxation and a good vibe...

and we found it all in bali

We spent most of our days lounging by the pool or walking along the beaches, taking in the gentle ways of the Balinese people. We found a tranquility here which was welcoming and enveloped us in its charm.

It is said that the Balinese people seek balance in all areas of their lives; between the gods, between the surrounding environment and their every day lives. Never have I experienced such spiritual surroundings.

We found that there is a natural kindness and serenity in the people we met along the way.

The colours, the scents, the music, the dancing - they stay in your mind long after your flight leaves.

Bali is multi-religious. Its people practice Christianity, Muslim, Buddhism minorities and the predominant religion, Hinduism.

For us this meant experiencing and visualising many aspects of all four. From statues to rituals to a festival we were lucky enough to stumble upon, we witnessed many things which were foreign to our everyday lives. And very beautiful.

In the city of Ubud, our car pleasantly had to wait for the procession to go by. What a wonderful vantage point!

Beauty is everywhere....especially, I found, in the Balinese people.

Although tourism is on the rise in Bali, and has been for some years, the average Balinese cannot afford to travel. Must say that it does seem a bit out of balance, for a place which is so blissful and so attractive to travellers seeking a refuge from "normal" life...

But, I only felt welcome and peaceful and reflective in Bali. A true holiday.
